Japan’s Sumitomo
Mitsui Banking Corporation has appointed Sandeep Chopra as
head of corporate coverage in India.
Chopra will be based in Mumbai, SMBC said in a statement yesterday. He reports to Rakesh Garg, chief business officer of SMBC India.
With more than three decades’ corporate and institutional experience, Chopra has worked at firms including DBS Bank India and Royal Bank of Scotland (now NatWest Group).
“This move reinforces our commitment to the Indian market, which serves as a cornerstone of SMBC’s Asia Pacific franchise and overall growth strategy,” Hiroyuki Mesaki, country head of SMBC India, said.
SMBC serves corporate and institutional companies as well as individual customers. Regionally in Asia, it operates a "multi-franchise" strategy in Indonesia, India, Vietnam and the Philippines.
