Barclays Wealth Gives Islanders Leg-Up Into Record Books

Barclays Wealth has helped residents of the Isle of Man step, awkwardly, into the record books. No doubt inspired by the tri-legged symbol that emblazons the Isle of Man’s coat of arms - known as the triskelion - Barclays Wealth’s own threesome, Damian Bird, Ian Pilley and Kerrie McCauley set out to tie together a record number of runners. The Guinness World Record for the highest number of competitors taking part in a three-legged race stood at 226 pairs. To qualify as a record attempt, the Manx tri-pods had to complete a 205 metre course, with each couple meticulously counted in and counted out. Goldfinger has become all too accustomed to the dangers of lofty ambition but, happily, 346 pairs of legs - 120 more than the record - successfully marched down the course and straight into the record books, pending approval. When ratified, the 692-footed feat will not only ensure the wealth manager a place in the world record books - if only as a foot note - but will have raised £40,000 for its chosen charity, Wish Upon a Dream. The local charity raises money to help fulfil the ambitions of sick and terminally ill children. “We had great fun on the day and we are all delighted that the world record was broken. It was truly an honour for Wish Upon a Dream to be chosen as the charity to benefit from this massive fund raising event and this is the largest donation we have ever received,” said Lesley Turnbull from Wish Upon a Dream. “I would like to personally thank everybody who came out on the day to race and support us in our world record breaking three legged race…There was a real party atmosphere at Noble’s Park on Sunday with many people racing in fancy dress and children’s entertainment running all afternoon,” said Mr Bird, opperations manager at Barclays Wealth, Isle of Man.
