Nomura IWM Names New CIO, DPM Head

Ray Sharma-Ong (pictured) has joined Nomura International Wealth Management (Nomura IWM) as managing director – chief investment officer (CIO) and head of discretionary portfolio management (DPM). 

Based in Singapore, Sharma-Ong will report to Akshay Prasad, head of investment products and advisory solutions (IWM). He will be expanding the Japanese wealth manager's growing franchise working with its client coverage, investment products and advisory solutions teams, an internal memo seen by WealthBriefing Asia and confirmed by a spokesperson.

Before joining Nomura, Sharma-Ong was deputy global head of multi-asset bespoke solutions at Aberdeen Investments, where he and the multi-asset team managed over $35 billion in cross-asset portfolios. He led investment strategy, idea generation, portfolio management, and implementation across global multi-asset strategies. He also chaired Aberdeen’s Global Bespoke Multi-Asset Investment Group for APAC and the Global FX Research Group.

Prior to Aberdeen, Sharma-Ong was a portfolio manager within the chief investment office (CIO) team at JP Morgan Asset & Wealth Management. He holds a master of science in management, specialising in finance and management strategies, and a bachelor of science in chemistry, specialising in analytics.
