Withers Expands Hong Kong Family Practice With A Senior Hire

Withers, the international law firm, bolsters its Hong Kong family practice with the appointment of a consultant.

International law firm Withers has bolstered its Hong Kong family practice with a senior appointment.

Samantha Gershon joins the company as a consultant, after serving as a partner at Robertsons, where she specialised in complex commercial litigation, public and administrative law. She started her career with the UK government and then moved to Hong Kong to become an in-house solicitor at the Metropolitan Police Service. She is a qualified solicitor locally and is also admitted to practice in England and Wales.

In a statement, Sharon Ser, regional senior partner for Asia and head of the matrimonial practice in Hong Kong at Withers, said that the appointment addresses the increasing number of family disputes involving multi-jurisdiction and corporate assets or structures.

Asia is a key growth area for the firm, which specialises in tax law, trusts, estate planning, family law and business law. The US-headquartered company first opened in Hong Kong in 2008 and then launched a Singapore office in 2012.

Early this year, Withers relocated one of its New York-based lawyers Wei Zhang to Hong Kong to help expand its Asian wealth planning practice. Several senior hires have also been announced across its Singapore and Hong Kong offices in the past months.
