Withers Builds Singapore Expertise With Senior Hire

This publication brings latest news of moves and hires in the Asia-Pacific wealth management sector.

Withers, the international law firm, has appointed Marcus Hinkley as special counsel in its Singapore office.

Hinkley previously worked at Collas Crill, where he was formerly head of the trust group practice in the Channel Islands, and since 2012, head of the firm’s Singapore office. He advises trust companies, banks, family offices and wealthy families on all aspects of private wealth structuring, with an emphasis on the Southeast Asian region.

In addition, Hinkley has lived and worked in New Zealand, the British Virgin Islands (BVI), Cayman Islands, and Channel Islands since 2001. He began his legal career in New Zealand, and is also the only lawyer in Singapore who advises on New Zealand Foreign Trusts and other New Zealand private wealth structures, Withers said.

Hinkley will be part of Withers KhattarWong, the entity formed in 2015 through a formal law alliance between Withers’ Singapore practice and KhattarWong, the Singapore-based law firm.

In June this year, Withers hired Mahesh Kumar as a partner in its Singapore office, joining from the Singapore office of Nishith Desai Associates, an Indian firm. At the latter firm, Kumar headed the international tax, private client and globalisation practice.
