Who's Moving Where In Wealth Management? - Capital Group, Dechert

The holder of the newly-appointed role is based in Hong Kong.

Capital Group, which oversees more than $2.6 trillion, has appointed Toby Chan (pictured) to the newly-created role of head of Hong Kong client group. The appointment takes effect immediately and is subject to regulatory approvals.

Based in Hong Kong, Chan is responsible for the firm’s distribution strategy for intermediary and institutional clients in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. She reports to Grant Leon, managing director of financial intermediaries for Europe and Asia at Capital Group.

Chan brings over 20 years of experience to the role. Most recently she was HSBC’s global head of Jade and Top Tier Proposition, managing the bank’s affluent and high net worth client segment.  In her 15 years with HSBC, she held various senior positions across asset management and wealth management, amongst others.

Capital Group’s Hong Kong office, established in 1983, offers 25 investment funds across equities and fixed income to local institutional, wholesale and retail investors. It has more than 400 investment professionals globally and six Asia-Pacific offices in Hong Kong, Mumbai, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.

Dechert
Global law firm Dechert has named senior lawyer Daniel Margulies as a partner in its financial restructuring practice, based in Hong Kong.

Margulies has extensive experience in financial restructuring and insolvency matters, distressed asset sales as well as cross-border and special situation financings. Over the past decade and a half as a key member of market-leading financial restructuring practices in Asia, Margulies has played a significant role in the largest and most complex corporate defaults and restructurings, acting for debtors, creditors, private equity and hedge fund clients.

This latest appointment follows a series of senior hires over the last two years to expand the firm’s global financial restructuring practice, including the appointment of Adam Plainer in London as co-chair of the practice group in March, Kay Morley as a partner in London in July, as well as partners Alastair Goldrein and Solomon J Noh in London last year.

In recent years, Dechert’s Asia capability has been strengthened with the hires of Maria Sit as a partner in its global litigation practice in Hong Kong and Maria Tan Pedersen as a partner in the corporate and securities team in Singapore.
