The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation – HSBC – has appointed longstanding KPMG figure Paul Jeremy Brough (pictured) as an independent non-executive director, effective 20 June. Brough is also a member of the audit committee and risk committee.

Brough worked at KPMG Hong Kong for almost 30 years and left the firm in 2012 as senior regional partner. During his tenure at KPMG, Brough was involved in major transactions in the financial services sector across Asia-Pacific, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, transaction advisory and restructuring matters, HSBC said in a statement yesterday.

Among other roles, Brough is an independent non-executive director of Guoco Group, Toshiba and Vitasoy International Holdings.

β€œPaul’s long history of financial advisory experience, coupled with his expertise in driving good corporate governance, setting good risk management frameworks, and managing strategic operational issues, brings valuable assets to the board as we continue to drive our strategies forward,” Peter Wong, chairman of the board of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, said.
