Vanguard Hires Former UBS Head of ETFs Europe

The hire will allow the firm to expand its presence in Europe, particularly in the ETF sector.
US-headquartered investment firm Vanguard has appointed
Thomas Merz as head of European distribution, in a bid to expand
the firm’s presence in both new and established markets in
continental Europe.
In his last role, Merz was head of exchange-traded funds Europe
at UBS Asset Management, Vanguard said in a statement.
In this newly-created role, Merz will join Vanguard’s European
leadership team. He will work out of the Zurich office and report
to Sean Hagerty, head of Europe at Vanguard.
“We’re delighted to have Thomas join the team. His experience,
knowledge, and record of success in the ETF industry will be of
great benefit as we continue to expand our high-value, low-cost
proposition across Europe,” said Hagerty.
Vanguard manages $4.4 trillion on behalf of more than 20 million
investors worldwide, and its European operations currently have
over $140 billion in assets under management.
