Value Partners Names Southeast Asia Head, Singapore CEO
The Asian investment firm, which operates in a number of jurisdictions, has made another senior-level appointment
Hong Kong-listed Value Partners has named James Ong as managing director, head of Southeast Asia and chief executive officer of Singapore.
Based in Singapore, Ong brings more than 25 years’ leadership and sales management experience at large financial institutions to his new role. Ong will partner Wallace Tsang, the group’s head of intermediary business, to drive the Southeast Asia Intermediaries business. Ong reports to Value Partners’ president June Wong.
Ong's appointment "is part of Value Partners’ efforts to bolster its Southeast Asia business to capture further growth in the asset and wealth management market in the Southeast Asia region", a spokesperson told this news service when asked about the matter. The roles are new ones at the firm.
Most recently, Ong was managing director and head of Southeast Asia at State Street Global Advisors, where he oversaw the firm’s institutional and intermediary businesses in the region. Before SSGA, he was client director at HSBC Asset Management and director at UOB Asset Management.
In late October, Value Partners appointed June Wong as president. Based in Hong Kong, she is responsible for managing overall business operations and corporate strategy for the group. In April 2020 Patricia Cheung was named chief operating officer at Value Partners Group.
In addition to its Hong Kong headquarters established in 1993, the firm operates in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and London, and maintains a representative office in Beijing.
