UBS Rolls Out Philanthropy Guide In Singapore Ceremony

In a divorce case that has already prompted commentary among lawyers dealing with ultra high net worth individuals, it was reported yesterday that billionaire hedge fund manager Chris Hohn has been ordered to pay his estranged wife Jamie Cooper-Hohn £337 million ($530 million).

UBS has launched its guide for social entrepreneurs and philanthropists in Singapore, to tap into potential large growth of such activity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Singapore roll-out of the UBS Philanthropy Compass witnessed a keynote speech from Tony Meloto, founder of Gawad Kalinga, the Philippines-based organisation.

The guide has been developed with London’s Cass Business School and FSG Impact Consultants. UBS said it “provides a structured approach on how philanthropists are able to create change, plan their philanthropy and successfully implement their philanthropic endeavours while engaging with their key stakeholders”.

“Philanthropy in Asia is undergoing a critical phase of development that will shape the giving landscape in the region for decades to come,” Christina Tung, head of philanthropy and values-based investing, APAC, UBS.

UBS said that a study it has recently undertaken noted that the number one reason for engaging in philanthropy in Asia was "ensuring the continuity of family values or creating a lasting legacy for future generations".

"Increasingly, business families who want to create a `living’ family legacy spanning multiple generations will find themselves balancing issues of complexity, transparency and control within the family,” Eric Landolt, head of family advisory Asia-Pacific, UBS Wealth Management.
