The firm said it is expanding the investment and business support capabilities in APAC by having a team of investment specialists and product managers.

UBS has appointed Michelle Shi as head chief investment officer for global investment management’s alternative solutions business in Asia-Pacific.

Shi is joining from GE Asset Management, State Street Global Advisors, where she spent a decade as head of Asia private equity. Prior to GE Asset Management, Shi was at ADM Capital for seven years, where she led the funds investments in various regional markets.

In her new role, Shi will be responsible for UBS’s alternatives team in APAC. “We are expanding the investment and business support capabilities in APAC by having a team of investment specialists and product managers led by Michelle, for both private markets and hedge funds,” a UBS memo shown by this news service, said.

Shi will be based in Hong Kong and report functionally to Johannes Roth in Zurich, as well as locally to Monica Chatterjee and Adrian Zuercher.

UBS told WealthBriefingAsia that Shi is taking on a newly-created role.
