New York-listed T Rowe Price has launched the T Rowe Price Personal App for iPhone and iPod touch, offering investors a flexible way of managing their accounts, including 401(k) plans.

The app is available in the US as a free download and investors with existing accounts can log in using their T Rowe Price username and password, the firm said.

Individual investors and participants in employer-sponsored retirement plans can check account balances and the status of pending transactions, as well as view asset allocation charts and track fund performance.

Additionally, individual investors outside of an employer-sponsored retirement plan can conduct mutual fund transactions.

In related news, last month SunGard added a mobile browser option to its Relius Administration Web suite of products to give retirement plan record-keepers the ability to help 401(k) participants get more from their plans.

“The use of mobile devices will play an increasing role in financial services as retirement specialists look to redefine and strengthen their client relationships,” SunGard said in a statement at the time.
