SunGard buys brokerage-based advisor tech vendor

Front-office technology to become part of SunGard's WealthStation offering. Financial-service processing provider SunGard has bought retail-brokerage technology vendor Automated Financial Systems (AFS). SunGard says it plans to add AFS' retail trading tools, streaming market data, and correspondent-clearing portal to its own WealthStation advisor workstation.

The financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

"AFS is an exciting addition to our suite of wealth management solutions," says Gerard Murphy, president of SunGard's brokerage and clearing business. "AFS' proven front-office applications complement our existing WealthStation offering for retail brokerage, clearing, bank, trust, insurance and independent firms."

New York-based AFS offers a web-based broker workstation that includes account management, trading, workflow, market data and portfolio management. SunGard says AFS' offerings will be easy to link with WealthStation because it's designed to work with its FAME, Phase3 and third-party back-office and market-data technologies.
