Senior Moves At Citi In Asia

Citi has seen top-level changes in Asia and at the global level.
There have been comings and goings among senior managers at Citi Private Bank in Asia, this publication has been able to establish. Separately, the CEO of Asia-Pacific for Citi, Stephen Bird, is taking on a global top-rank role.
It is understood that Richard Straus, who had held the role of managing director, family offices and North Asia platinum team, a role held since December 2010, left the firm earlier this year. He was based in Hong Kong for that post.
Straus’s position has been filled by Michael Troth, a role he took on in February, this publication can confirm.
Prior to his latest role at Citi, Straus was managing director, global market manager for Taiwan, holding that slot from September 2006 to November 2010, also based in Hong Kong. Among other roles, going back to March 2000, he was chief operating officer, Asia-Pacific, in a position that saw him work in Singapore. Other positions, such as COO global investments, saw him work for a two-year stint in New York at Citi Private Bank.
Citi Private Bank declined to comment on the matter. This publication has not been able to establish his current position or future plans; his LinkedIn profile has not been changed.
As reported separately here, Citi’s chief of its global consumer bank is retiring in several weeks’ time and is to be replaced by the CEO of Asia-Pacific, Stephen Bird, who will be based in New York. Bird has worked at Citi for 17 years, according to a statement from the US-listed banking group yesterday.
Francisco Aristeguieta, currently CEO of Latin America, will succeed Bird and become CEO of Asia-Pacific. Aristeguieta will move to Hong Kong and is a 21-year veteran of Citi, the banking group said.
