RWC Partners Hires 15-Strong Team In Emerging Market Focus

RWC Partners has established a new emerging, frontier and Asia equity business.

London-based investment house RWC Partners has poached a 15-strong investment team from Everest Capital to form a Miami and Singapore-based emerging, frontier and Asia equity business.

The investment manager has opened an office in Miami to support the new business and its launch in Singapore is currently subject to regulatory approval.

In Miami, the new emerging and frontier market team is headed up by John Malloy and James Johnstone. Malloy, supported by co-portfolio manager Thomas Allraum, is responsible for emerging market portfolios, while Johnstone, supported by co-portfolio manager Luis Laboy, is responsible for frontier market portfolios.

Cem Akyurek has also joined the team as emerging market economist, while Simon Onabowale will lead trading in Miami. Tord Stallvik joins as a member of the firm's management committee and as head of US.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, Garret Mallal will take on the role of portfolio manager and Min Chen will focus on Asian equity research.

RWC Partners said it had launched new funds replicating those previously managed by the team, covering long-only emerging and frontier markets, as well as long-short frontier and Asian strategies.

“This comes at an exciting time where our business has seen its assets double in the last two years on the back of strong performance and good inflows,” said the chief executive of RWC Partners, Dan Mannix.

“We have developed our systems and infrastructure to support our rapidly growing business over the last two years and it is a great opportunity for us to launch an emerging market capability that is highly credible, fully formed, and at a point in the cycle where clients are starting to consider who they use in the emerging market space.”
