Mr Mustoe has been chief investment officer at Hermes Pensions Management since 2001, where he was responsible for the group's entrance into hedge funds and commodities.
PAM, which is the institutional division of Pictet & Cie, the Swiss private bank, manages £41 billion ($77.3 billion).
