PIMCO Welcomes Back GLG Partners Executive

The global investment management firm has appointed leadership for its client analytics team.

PIMCO has rehired Jamil Baz from Man GLG Partners as managing director and head of client analytics.

Baz will join the firm in May. At Man GLG Partners he was most recently senior managing director and chief investment strategist. Before that, he managed global portfolios for PIMCO in Europe and held various positions at Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers.

In the newly-created role, Baz will be based in Newport Beach, California, and will lead the firm’s client analytics team, providing studies and solutions to clients in areas including asset allocation, risk management and portfolio construction. He will report to Ravi Mattu, managing director, global head of analytics, and Mihir Worah, managing director and chief investment officer – asset allocation.

“With more than 30 years of experience as an investment professional, Jamil is a key addition to our asset allocation team and will strengthen and complement the asset-allocation expertise we offer clients for their constantly-evolving investment needs. In addition his expertise will benefit our systematic strategies and tail risk hedging offerings,” said Worah.

PIMCO has 13 offices in 12 countries across North America, Europe and Asia. In December last year, the firm created an advisory board of five renowned economic and policy figures, including former UK prime minister Gordon Brown. Other figures who joined the board were former Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke as chairman; Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank; Ng Kok Song, former chief investment officer of the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation; Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and chief executive of think tank New America and former US Department of State policy director.
