Nomura's IWM Business Hires Ex-Standard Chartered Figure For Dubai Role

The newly-appointed figure, based in Dubai, has worked in the financial services sector for more than 30 years, much of these at Standard Chartered.
A former senior Standard Chartered figure, Harish Hemandas, has been appointed to join Nomura’s international wealth management business in Dubai, this news service can report.
Hemandas will become head of Nomura Singapore Limited (NSL) Dubai International Financial Centre branch, according to a memo seen by WealthBriefing and WealthBriefingAsia.
Subject to regulatory approvals, Hemandas will be appointed as the senior executive officer and head of coverage for the Middle East and Europe.
In this role, Hemandas will report to Anurag Mahesh, who is coverage head for Southeast Asia, global South Asia and Middle East, at Nomura.
This news service understands that Adil Khan, who was the former senior executive officer of Nomura Singapore Ltd’s DIFC branch, has left the firm.
Hemandas will be responsible for scaling the Japanese firm’s international wealth management franchise by driving client business focusing on high and ultra-high net worth individuals, family offices, external asset managers and other relevant entities in the Middle East and Europe.
With more than three years’ experience of work in the Middle East under his belt, Hemandas has mainly been at Standard Chartered Bank where he held several senior positions across private bank, treasury and global financial markets. Most recently, he was a managing director and team leader at Standard Chartered Bank, Dubai where he led its private banking business in the Middle East and Africa region.
(This news service has asked Nomura if Hemandas is taking on a newly-formed role or replacing someone who has moved, and will update in due course.)
In July 2023, Nomura expanded its international wealth arm by taking up residence in the Dubai International Financial Centre.
Among various moves, in March this year, the firm appointed Ong Kin Yok as managing director and team head to focus on market coverage for Singapore and Malaysia.
