New CCO for Sterling Bank in Nigeria

Sterling Bank plc, a full-service bank licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria whose private banking arm offers HNWs products such as trust and fiduciary services, philanthropy management and investment advisory, has appointed Mr Femi Jayeola as its new chief compliance officer.

Jayeola used to work as the general manager and group chief compliance officer at Diamond Bank plc, which also offered private banking services and has now been acquired by Access Bank. Both banks have their headquarters in Lagos.

Jayeola has reportedly built up experience in Europe, Africa and the Middle East in risk management, banking operations, business advisory services, internal audit, external audit and compliance. He was, according to one report, the head of audit for Nigeria and West Africa at Standard Chartered Bank. According to another garbled communication, he has spent six years in the UK as a vice president in internal audit and/or an internal auditor at Citigroup and Barclays Bank.

The total time has has spent in the financial sector exceeds two decades. He also worked at Bond Bank in Nigeria and Arthur Andersen (now KPMG).

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in Finance and Investment from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a Certified Information System Auditor and a member of the Board of Audit, Investigations and Forensic Accounting.
