Karas, a law practice, began its association with international law firm Mishcon de Reya last year. It is widening its capabilities in Asia for private client work.
Law firm Karas in association with Mishcon de Reya is growing its contentious and non-contentious private client capabilities. It has appointed new partner Jonathan Mok and his team to join its Hong Kong office.
The move will take effect on 1 December.
One year on from Karas LLP and Mishcon de Reya launching their association, this marks a significant expansion of the firms' trilingual private client capability, complementing the expertise across Mishcon de Reya's London and Singapore offices, the firms said.
Mok is an established senior lawyer, known for his work in high-profile family disputes, criminal defence and regulatory compliance practices. Mok will be joined by Carmen Cheng as special counsel, along with associate Sarah Wong and legal assistant Angela Li.
Mok was the sole principal of Jonathan Mok Legal, an independent boutique firm. Before that, he was with Johnson Stokes & Master (Mayer Brown) for 22 years, including 16 years as a partner.
“Since commencing our association with Mishcon de Reya last year, we have focused on broadening our private client capability for Asia-based clients. Jonathan's considerable experience navigating family disputes, private client advisory and structuring matters is a perfect fit for our business. His experience as a trusted advisor to family offices, along with that of his team, is an effective complement to Karas LLP and Mishcon's financial disputes and fraud practice,” Jason Karas, managing partner of Karas, said.
Karas launched its association with Mishcon de Reya in November 2021. Mishcon de Reya's local representative in Hong Kong is Kamal Rahman, a senior partner of the firm's London office, who specialises in private wealth and immigration.
