Japanese Wealth Manager Lends Hand To Low-Income Students
The firm is trying to improve education opportunities for young people from low-income families in Japan.
Japanese wealth management firm SIG Management has contributed $1.0 million in grants, internships and scholarships to students from poor families who do not have access to university education. More than 100 students are being targeted in the next year to take part in the venture.
The scholarship will be awarded for a full financial academic course at top universities in Japan. Depending on a student's academic performance, they will be given an internship at the company, SIG Management said in a statement yesterday.
"Regardless of your background if you are a bright individual with passion and determination to succeed, that is what we recognize and should not go unnoticed which is why we are giving back to our communities," Emishi Yasotaro, head of economic research at SIG Management, said.
