Japan's SMBC Appoints Co-Regional Chief Information Office For APAC

The newly appointed figure, based in Singapore, has worked in the banking sector in Hong Kong, London and Singapore for 30 years.
Japan-headquartered Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, aka SMBC, has appointed Luis Pereira as co-regional chief information officer for its Asia-Pacific division, effective 13 May.
Pereira is based in Singapore.
Partnering with Fumitaka Kato, co-Regional CIO for APAC, he will report to Takashi Yamaguchi, head of governance planning department, Asia-Pacific division. Pereira will also report to Hideki Takamatsu, group CIO and Nobuyuki Takiguchi, group deputy CIO.
Pereira has three decades’ experience in the banking industry across Singapore, London and Hong Kong. He has been global CIO for wealth management and regional CIO for APAC. Prior to that, Pereira also assumed roles of head of APAC technology and change and regional head of IT for APAC.

ideal leader to guide our digital transformation as SMBC
continues to accelerate our digital journey in the Asia-Pacific
region,” Katsufumi Uchida, head of SMBC Asia- Pacific division,
said. “His proven ability to navigate complex financial
landscapes and drive technological innovation will be
instrumental as we transform our infrastructure and embed a
data-driven approach across our operations.”
