International Law Firm Gives Hedge Fund Start-Ups A Helping Hand In Hong Kong

The law firm is opening a service aimed at emerging hedge fund managers in Hong Kong.

Simmons & Simmons, the international law firm, has rolled out an online resource for hedge fund start-ups in Hong Kong.

The service is called Simmons & Simmons LaunchPlus, and follows a UK version created by the firm’s UK practice, and a US-to-UK version for established US managers seeking to set up in the UK market.

The service works through structuring and domicile considerations through to helping a new manager work out the important steps on a launch, the firm said in a statement.

“2017 will prove to be a challenging environment for start-ups given market volatility, ramping up of military tension in several regions, continued uncertainty over the prospect of the US raising interest rates, as well as the PRC Central Bank’s policy on capital outflow,” Gaven Cheong, partner at the firm, said. (He referred to China’s attempts to curb money outflows by individuals and corporations, as part of the attempt to manage its renminbi currency.)
