Hong Kong Warns Over Yet Another Fraudulent Bank Website

Hong Kong’s financial regulator has issued another warning about a fake banking website, in this case of a site purporting to be the official site of Wing Lung Bank Limited.

Hong Kong’s financial regulator has issued another warning about a fake banking website, in this case of a site purporting to be the official site of Wing Lung Bank Limited.

The bank states that it has no connection with the fraudulent site, which uses the domain name www.wlpbhk.com, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority said in a statement yesterday.

The regulator said anyone who has given personal information to the website or has conducted financial business through it should contact Wing Lung Bank at 2309 5555 and any local police station or the Commercial Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.

There have been a number of warnings about such fraudulent websites. In October, for example, the HKMA told the public to be on guard about websites purporting to be those of Wells Fargo, National Association (Wells Fargo) and Bank of China (Hong Kong), adding to a number of recent alerts about internet scammers and fake emails. At a time when the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has been busy alerting the public about temporary closures to some bank branches amid the pro-democracy clashes in the city, it has also had to continue warning about internet fraudsters.
