Hermes Appoints Director Of Engagement

Hermes EOS, part of UK-based Hermes Investment Management, has handed the senior role to an equity research expert.

Shareholder advisory firm Hermes EOS has appointed Carl Short to the new role of director of engagement.

Short, who brings over 25 years of experience in the equities market, previously worked for a number of banks and research providers, including Standard & Poor's equity research unit, Société Générale, Nomura and Kleinwort Benson.

Based in London, he will be responsible for leading the engagement team’s implementation of Hermes EOS’ global engagement and voting services programme. Last year, the team engaged with 466 companies on 1,150 environmental, social and ethical, governance, strategy and risk issues and objectives.

“Since its launch in 2004, Hermes EOS has grown exponentially as have our engagements with corporate boards and public policymakers ranging from North America, to developed Asia, Europe as well as global emerging markets,” said Hans-Christoph Hirt, co-head of Hermes EOS.

“We are pleased to welcome Carl into this new role which underlines our commitment to engage with companies at the highest levels and enact positive change for the beneficiaries of our clients. Throughout his career in equity research, he has acquired a detailed knowledge of corporate responsibility and the value that shareholder engagement can add to a business.”

As of the end of March 2016, Hermes EOS advised on more than £169.8 billion ($248 billion) of assets, while its parent firm, Hermes Investment Management, looked after £24.1 billion of assets across equities, fixed income, alternatives and real estate.
