HSBC Private Bank is being sued by one of its senior anti-money-laundering lawyers in the US, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

Mireya D'Angelo filed her discrimination and defamation claim last month in US District Court in New York after being fired in August for alleged violations in how she accounted for her time and expenses, according to the report.

Ms D’Angelo claims she was discriminated against because she is Hispanic, and that the bank defamed her.

The bank denied Ms D'Angelo's allegations in a court filing last month, according to the report.

The Wall Street Journal report quoting the complaint said Ms D'Angelo's problems appear to have begun after Teresa Pesce was hired in 2003 as director of anti-money laundering for HSBC's US bank.

Ms D’Angelo was eventually fired for time and expense violations.
