HSBC Names Offshore Taiwan Market Head

The bank said it is "doubling down" on Taiwan-related private banking business as well as aiming to raise market share across Greater China.

HSBC has appointed Gloria Sun (main picture) as the market head for “Offshore Taiwan” at its private banking arm, effective 13 July. The role is a newly formed one, HSBC told WealthBriefingAsia when asked about the matter.

Based in Hong Kong, Sun will report to Kanas Chan, private banking head for North Asia and Hong Kong, the UK/Hong Kong-headquartered group said in a statement.

Sun will lead the offshore Taiwan teams in Hong Kong and Singapore.

Her hire follows the recent appointment of an onshore Taiwan market head, Edward Chiu (pictured below).

The bank said Sun brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in private banking and wealth management across Greater China. Most recently, she served as senior market head for Taiwan at DBS; previously, she served in senior private banking roles at Deutsche Bank and the Bank of East Asia.

“We are doubling down on Taiwan and committed to growing our market share across Greater China,” Kanas Chan, head of Private Bank, North Asia and Hong Kong said.
