Luxembourg-based Lombard International Assurance has appointed Robert MacIntyre to lead its UK team and spearhead the development of the firm’s relationships with the UK private banking market.

MacIntyre joins from Merrill Lynch, where he had been head of wealth planning for EMEA. His appointment is the latest senior hire made by Lombard as part of its private banking push. Most recently, in July Vincent Pinte was named as executive director for business development and marketing; he came over from Cardif Lux Vie, where he had spent four years as director of international sales focusing on establishing partnerships with European private banks and developing its sales and marketing strategy.

Acting as a partner to private banks and family offices, MacIntyre will extend Lombard’s expertise within the London international market, particularly for both non-domiciled residents and families spread across multiple jurisdictions, the firm said in a statement. It added that it is seeing increasing business from UK-resident non-doms and multi-jurisdictional families.

Lombard International Assurance offers unit-linked life assurance for use as a financial planning tool by high and ultra high net worth clients – a concept the firm calls “privatbancassurance”. To view an article explaining further click here.

The firm, which has some €22 billion ($28 billion) in total assets under management, is part of the international division within the Friends Life group that was acquired by Resolution in 2009. Lombard's largest markets are in Italy, the UK, Belgium, Germany and Spain.
