Eastspring Names New Head For Thai Businesses

The new appointee takes over from two individuals who are moving on from their posts.

Eastspring Investments, the Asia investment arm of UK-listed Prudential, has appointed Adisorn Sermchaiwong as chief executive of its Thai businesses, TMWAM Eastspring and Thanachart Fund Eastspring.

Subject to regulatory approval, Sermchaiwong wii start his role today, Eastspring said in a statement.

Sermchaiwong is taking over from Boonchai Kiattanavith, CEO of TFUND Eastspring, and Dr Somjin Sornpaisarn, CEO of TMBAM ES. Kiattanavith is leaving to pursue other interests and Dr Somjin is retiring after 11 years in his role.

Reporting to Wai-Kwong Seck, CEO Eastspring Investment, Sermchaiwong will be responsible for overseeing the integration of Eastspring’s two Thai asset management businesses as well as growing the firm’s retail and institutional presence, it said.

Eastspring bought 65 per cent of TMB Asset Management, now TMWAM in September 2018, and 50.1 per cent of Thanachart Fund (now Thanachart Fund Eastspring) in December 2019. The holdings make Eastspring the fifth-largest asset manager in Thailand with a market share of 8 per cent and combined assets under management of THB370billion ($12 billion).

Sermchaiwong has more than 25 years’ experience in investment management, wealth management and retail banking, and joins Eastspring from CIMB Thai Bank (CIMBT), where he was the president and chief executive. Having worked at CIMBT since 2012, Sermchaiwong has had a number of roles including deputy CEO and head of retail banking. He has also held senior positions at UOB Thai Bank and Siam Commercial Bank and was president of SCB Asset Management.
