EXCLUSIVE: Major Singaporean Bank Hires Former Top Manager From UBS

WealthBriefingAsia can confirm the hire of the ex-head of UHNW at UBS in Singapore.

WealthBriefingAsia has confirmed exclusively that DBS has hired Joseph Poon, former head of UBS UHNW segment in Singapore.

Poon left UBS in May this year after a restructuring of the Swiss bank's Singapore management. Poon had been at UBS since May 2012, having previously served as managing director at  Julius Baer, where he was a member of the firm's Asia executive committee. Prior to this, he was chief executive of Macquarie Private Wealth Asia in Singapore and responsible for building up the UHNW segment in Asia.

He joined Julius Baer in 2012 after the Australian bank's wealth management unit was acquired by the Swiss bank. Before that, Poon worked for US lender JP Morgan in Singapore.  Poon’s exact role at DBS has yet to be confirmed and DBS declined to comment on Poon's appointment when approached.

The appointment of Poon comes on top of a number of significant hires by the Singapore bank over the last few months. These include Rob Ioannou from HSBC, heading up the International business and Jeremy Parlins, from RBC, to lead the banks UK Wealth Management push.
