EXCLUSIVE: Ex-Citi Private Bank Taiwan Leader To Head Family Office

John Wang, former global market manager for Taiwan at Citi Private Bank, has landed a new role setting up a family office business at a Taiwanese boutique.

John Wang, former global market manager for Taiwan at Citi Private Bank, has landed a new role setting up a family office business at a Taiwanese boutique.

Wang left the Wall Street lender in February after spending just over a year in the Hong Kong-based role, WealthBriefingAsia has learned.

He has resurfaced at Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) to head their newly-created family office business

Wang joined Citi in January 2011 from Goldman Sachs, where he had a long career, most recently as an executive director.

His role at Citi has been taken up by Steven Lo, head of private banking for Hong Kong and Taiwan, who continues to be based in Hong Kong. Lo's dual role is on an interim basis; the bank hopes to appoint a full time Taiwan head in due course.

Fubon Bank is part of Fubon Financial Holding, Taiwan's second largest listed financial holding company with total assets of NT$3.4 trillion ($113 billion) and 9 million customers as of December last year, according to its website.

It offers corporate and investment banking, financial markets, consumer finance, wealth management, investment management and insurance. Fubon Financial is the only Taiwanese financial services group having both a locally registered bank in Hong Kong and a strategic investment in a bank in Mainland China.

Citi declined to comment.
