Credit Suisse Names Diversity Global Head

The appointment comes at a time when wealth managers are being urged to recruit and retain more women, as well as those from more varied backgrounds than has typically been the case in a male-dominated industry often led by people from Western Europe and North America.

Credit Suisse is pushing the diversity agenda in the workplace by recruiting a senior manager to drive hiring, career development and performance in this area.

The Zurich-listed bank has appointed Patsy Sciutto Doerr as global head of diversity and inclusion. She is joining from media, information and market data services group Thomson Reuters, where she was global head of corporate responsibility, sustainability and inclusion, according to a memo seen by this publication and confrmed by a Credit Suisse spokesperson.

At Thomson Reuters Sciutto Doerr positioned D&I as a topic of direct business impact, realising "tangible improvements on key performance indicators", the memo said.

The appointment comes at a time when wealth managers are being urged to recruit and retain more women, as well as those from more varied backgrounds than has typically been the case in a male-dominated industry, often led by people from Western Europe and North America.

In the role, she will join the bank's HR executive committee and report to Antoinette Poschung, global head of human resources and Sigi Hoenle, head of recruitment, development and diversity. Sciutto Doerr will join the bank in New York before moving to Zurich by the end of this year.

"Together with her team, Patsy will support divisions and functions in meeting the diversity aspirations that have been agreed at board level, and addressing challenges and opportunities specific to their business and geographies. Patsy will continue to advance our successful data-driven approach to removing potential bias from our management practices, including from processes such as recruitment, performance management and promotions," the memo said.

At Credit Suisse, Sciutto Doerr will be returning to the bank where she worked from 2001 to 2011, first in leadership development in New York and then for five years as talent development head in Asia, based in Hong Kong.
