Clarien Recruits Two As HSBC Loses Private Banking Unit In Bermuda

The Bermuda-based bank, which provides services including private banking and wealth management, has made a double appointment.

Clarien Bank has hired HSBC's Cyril Simmons and Carmen Adebiyi within its private banking arm.

Simmons held various roles at HSBC Bermuda before becoming head of captive and insurance banking of the bank in 2013. His appointment as a senior private banker at Clarien follows HSBC's recent agreement to sell its Bermuda-based private banking and trust businesses to Butterfield.

Meanwhile, Adebiyi joins as a private banking officer. She was previously head of member services at the Bermuda Business Development Agency where she was involved in the merger between the Bermuda Business Development Corporation and Business Bermuda.

“We’ve worked very hard to build a multi-talented, Bermuda-based team that combines proven international experience with a deep understanding of the Island to offer a highly personalised and holistic approach,” said Clarien's head of private banking, Clare Spearing.

“Those skills are especially important when developing long-term financial and estate planning for families whose assets may span generations and several countries.”
