Investment and advisory firm BlackRock has hired Pablo Goldberg from HSBC to work in its emerging market fixed income business.
Goldberg joins as a managing director, portfolio manager and senior strategist within the division and will report to Sergio Trigo Paz - head of BlackRock's emerging markets fixed income group.
Based in New York, Goldberg is tasked with focusing on the company’s US-based clients and growing BlackRock’s emerging market fixed income business. His responsibilities include generating research and developing investment strategies, as well as being a voting member on the company’s investment committee.
At HSBC he was managing director and global head of emerging markets research. Prior to joining HSBC he headed up the emerging market debt strategy division at Merrill Lynch & Co, where he was also chief economist for Latin America.
“Pablo’s joining continues to demonstrate BlackRock’s commitment to growing and investing in our emerging markets business,” the company said. “His extensive experience and deep market knowledge will strengthen and complement both my team and the broader emerging market investor group within BlackRock.”
BlackRock has been beefing up its emerging market focus lately. Earlier this month, Helen Zhu took the helm as managing director and head of China equities at the firm.
She has been brought in to work in the firm's China equities segment and had previously spent the past eight years at Goldman Sachs. According to BlackRock's figures as at 31 December 2013, Asia-Pacific accounts for around 8 per cent of its total assets under management.
