Barclays Wealth Creates New Head Of Discretionary Investing Role

Barclays Wealth has hired Markus Stadlmann as a managing director with the newly-created role of head of discretionary investing.

Barclays Wealth has hired Markus Stadlmann as a managing director with the newly-created role of head of discretionary investing.  He will report to Thomas Rostron, head of asset management.

Stadlmann will be responsible for the performance of client assets invested in multi-asset portfolios and funds across Barclays Wealth Investment Management and will manage the teams of portfolio investment managers in all locations globally, including the leaders of multi-manager, absolute return, global fixed income and UK equity solutions.

Together with his teams, Stadlmann will work closely with private bankers, client sales leaders, economists and research specialists to ensure client needs are met and that enhanced risk adjusted returns are achieved. He will also play an important role in shaping the global investment strategy across the firm and will become a member of the Barclays Wealth investment committee.

Stadlmann joins from HQ Trust, where he was chief investment officer of and member of the management committee of Harald Quandt Holding, one of the largest European multi-family offices, based in Frankfurt, New York, Hong Kong and London.  Before HQ, he was chief investment officer at VP Bank, a family-owned bank listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange in Zurich.

“Our investment managers are operating at the nexus between research, asset allocation, portfolio construction and behavioural finance and our discretionary portfolios are the bellwethers of our investment process.  Markus will play a crucial role in driving decision making, focusing on process evolution and investment discipline across all discretionary investing teams internationally,” said Rostron.

Barclays Wealth offers discretionary and non-discretionary managed portfolio options to clients across the ultra high and high net worth, core, trustees and intermediaries client segments.
