BNP Paribas Hires Asia Wealth Planning Services Head

The wealth management house has made a senior appointment for the Asia region.
BNP Paribas Wealth Management has announced Teddy Chu as head of wealth planning services, Asia, based in Hong Kong and reporting to Garth Bregman, head of investment services, Asia-Pacific. Chu replaces Berry Wong, the previous holder of the post, who left about a year ago, a spokesperson confirmed to this publication.
Chu will supervise dedicated wealth planning services teams in Hong Kong and Singapore and will be responsible for overseeing the provision of WPS across the Asia-Pacific region including wealth structuring solutions, succession planning and insurance.
Prior to this role, Chu was a managing director at Standard Chartered Bank. Before that, he held senior roles at Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank and HSBC, leading a team of wealth planners providing wealth structuring and inheritance planning advice to high and ultra-high net worth clients. He has worked in the industry for more than 20 years.
This publication has contacted the French bank to clarify if the role is a newly-created one or exactly replaces the function of a predecessor; it will update in due course.
As part of the ebb and flow of talent moving around banks, the China market head at BNP Paribas Wealth Management recently left the firm. Alfred Tsai had held the role since October 2011; from July 2009, he served as the managing director, senior advisor at Julius Baer Bank. He has more than 20 years of financial services expertise with companies such as UBS, Citibank, American Express and National Westminster Bank. He started out his banking career at Citibank Hong Kong in 1982.
In May this year, BNP Paribas Wealth Management appointed Grace Tam as its chief investment advisor for Hong Kong, reporting to Prashant Bhayani, the chief investment officer, Asia. Tam is responsible for helping to formalise and communicate the bank's global asset allocation and investment strategies in Asia, in line with the global views of the bank across asset classes. Prior to this, Tam worked at HSBC Global Asset Management where she was a senior market specialist.
