Fine art certainly travels thousands of miles very fast these days. A Vincent van Gogh picture, Still Life, Vase With Daisies and Poppies, which was sold for a record-breaking $61.8 million in early November, was presented to its new owner in Hong Kong at the weekend.

The artwork helped Sotheby’s, the international auction house, notch up what it called an “exceptional” $422.1 million, the highest in the firm’s history, it said. And the van Gogh work, sold to Chinese movie mogul Wang Zhongjun, chairman of Huaiyi Brothers Media, is now its owner. The auction house said the price tag is a world record for any still life by the Dutch artist. The new owner received the picture at Sotheby’s gallery in the Asian city on Saturday.

Sotheby’s, and its main rival, Christie’s, both have reported strong sales results in Asia this year, according to this report.
