AXA IM Boosts Equities Team In Asia

This publication brings latest news on moves and appointments in the Asia region.

AXA Investment Managers has hired Simon Weston as senior equity fund manager in Hong Kong.

Weston brings 20 years’ experience in covering Asia-Pacific ex-Japan equities. He joins from Semeru CLSA Capital Partners in Singapore where he was managing director and portfolio manager of the Semeru Asian Equity High Yield Fund. He previously worked at Old Mutual Asset Managers, Perpetual Investment Management and Hill Samuel Asset Management.

The company said the newly-created role comes as part of its expansion drive across the Asia-Pacific region. Weston will focus on Asia-Pacific equities as part of AXA IM’s Framlington Equities’ global team, while supporting the wider research capabilities of the Asia team. He will report to Mark Tinker, head of Framlington Equities Asia.

“Simon will be an excellent addition to the equity team and our manufacturing capabilities in Hong Kong, but also to AXA IM’s wider global research structure. With tremendous experience and a strong performance track record, we are excited to have Simon join us and are certain that he will bolster AXA IM’s positive momentum in the Asia-Pacific,” said Tinker.

AXA IM, which had around $773 billion in assets under management as of the end of June, recently hired Tom Clapham in Hong Kong to head up its sovereign wealth funds and central banks offering in Asia.
