One facet of cybercrime is the fake website scam, in which people are lured into divulging information to criminals.

Bank of East Asia has warned clients about a fraudulent website purporting to be associated with the bank, continuing a run of alerts by financial institutions in the region about such scams.

There is no affiliation whatever with the website bearing the address http://bk.hkbetas.com, BEA said in a statement. 

The login page on the website tries to obtain customers’ login names and passwords. 

Earlier this year, authorities in Hong Kong warned the public about fraudulent websites purporting to be hosted by China CITIC Bank International and Citibank (Hong Kong).
