MetLife Investment Management Names New Head Of MIM Japan

The new head of MIM Japan will continue as co-head the Asia Public Fixed Income team from Tokyo. He will also be appointed as representative director of both MetLife Investment Management and PineBridge Investments Japan.

MetLife Investment Management (MIM), the institutional asset management business of MetLife Inc, has appointed Omar Slim as head of MIM Japan, effective 1 December 2026. Based in Tokyo, he will report to Kirk Sweeney, head of Asia Pacific.

Slim will be responsible for the overall direction and strategic build-out of the Japan business, a key priority for MIM. He will continue to co-head the Asia public fixed income team from Tokyo, alongside Andy Suen, co-head of Asia public fixed income, based in Hong Kong. Slim will also continue to manage strategies invested in global and Asian credit, rates, and currency markets, and will still report to Tim Rabe, head of public fixed income, in his capacity as co-head of Asia for public fixed income. As part of the transition, Slim will be appointed as representative director of both MetLife Investment Management, Ltd and PineBridge Investments Japan Co Ltd.

Before joining the firm, Slim worked for State Street Global Advisors and BNP Paribas Corporate and Investment Banking. He holds a master of science in finance from Boston College’s Carroll Graduate School of Management and is a CFA charter holder.

Komei Asaba, head of client group, Japan, will also be appointed representative director of both entities. Asaba's remit is to drive revenue growth, shape client strategy and advance the firm's strategic positioning across institutional and intermediary channels. Komei will continue to report to Sergio Ramirez, global head of the Client Group.

“Omar’s deep leadership experience and proven investment expertise will bolster MIM’s significant fixed income capabilities and position us well to seize additional opportunities for clients in this increasingly significant market for global investors,” Rabe said.

Sweeney added: "MIM is committed to Japan as a critical part of our Asia Pacific business. Omar’s strong leadership will build on our success, and I’m confident he will further accelerate the growth of our Japanese investment management business.”
