HSBC Makes Raft Of Senior Private Banking Hires Across Southeast Asia, Other Markets

The global private banking arm of HSBC has set out a range of recent hires across Southeast Asia and select jurisdictions.

HSBC Global Private Banking has made a raft of senior appointments across Southeast Asia, Australia and international markets.

Joanne Ng, who has joined as desk head for the Singapore team, has more than 22 years of experience in wealth management. Ng, formerly from OCBC Premier Private Client, delivers personalised banking solutions to HNW clients. She reports to Hammad Hashmi, market head, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Based in Singapore, Ng will lead a team of relationship managers serving HNW clients.

Tim Morse will join in August as senior business development manager, based in Australia. An industry veteran with prior leadership roles at Citi, JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, Morse will focus on deepening collaboration between HSBC’s onshore franchises and offshore private banking teams.

Tom Kinnear has joined as a relationship manager covering Australia and International markets, reporting to Kapil Khanna. Kinnear has experience in global markets and institutional client coverage.

The private bank has made other recent hires:

Kapil Khanna has been appointed desk head for Australia, Japan and international in July, based in Singapore. He brings experience of managing ultra-HNW client relationships across Asia-Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa; he was previously head of international investment counselling at HSBC. Kapil now leads coverage strategy for key developed markets, focusing on founders, family businesses, and internationally-mobile clients.

Other hires
Le Hong Sie has joined the Indonesia team as a senior relationship manager, reporting to Urban Binggeli, Indonesia global private banking desk head. She brings more than 30 years of experience at HSBC in Indonesia across multiple corporate and institutional banking roles; she is now transitioning into private banking coverage from Singapore.

Leonard Eggert is also joining the Indonesia team as RM, reporting to Urban Binggeli. He spent six years as a corporate banker in Indonesia before relocating to Singapore in 2021, where he worked with KfW prior to joining HSBC.

In the Malaysia team, Rayner Wong is joining from Julius Baer and Samuel Chi Hao Kee from HSBC Premier. Both are taking on RM roles, supporting coverage in the Malaysian market.

“We’re continuing to build momentum across Southeast Asia by investing in top talent and deepening our cross-border capabilities. Our clients increasingly require personalised, multi-market wealth solutions, and we are well-positioned to deliver that through our expanding bench strength, strong connectivity, and product suite,” Tommy Leung, head of HSBC Global Private Banking, South Asia, said.

The changes followed the appointments of Abhishek Mehrotra as market head, SEA International and Hammad Hashmi as market head, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia last year.
