Deutsche Asset Management has appointed Daniel Smaller as head of its Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan operations. He will be based in Dubai. Mr Smaller will set up an asset management business in the Middle East, which would eventually develop some locally managed funds, according to a statement from the bank.

Mr Smaller joined Deutsche Bank in 1998 as head of emerging market equity sales and was most recently head of global equity sales in Asia.
