AXA Completes Domicile Switch To Hong Kong For Bermuda Business

The move comes after the Asian jurisdiction introduced a re-domicilation regime.
AXA Hong Kong and Macau has completed the change in domicile from one of its companies to Hong Kong from Bermuda, taking advantage of new rules in Hong Kong.
The entity is AXA China Region Insurance Company (Bermuda).
The change happened under the re-domiciliation regime introduced by Hong Kong. The switch took effect from yesterday, and the entity is now called AXA China Region Insurance Company (Hong Kong).
AXA said it is one of the first insurers to take advantage of the new regime, coming at a time when Hong Kong is seeking to bolster its standing as a financial centre. Hong Kong officially launched a streamlined, court-free inward company re-domiciliation regime on 23 May 2025.
“The re-domiciliation underscores our strong confidence in Hong Kong’s strategic importance and growth potential and reflects our unwavering commitment to serving customers with resilience and innovation,” Sally Wan, CEO, AXA Greater China, said.
In May last year, international law firm Slaughter & May described the rationale for the new Hong Kong regime: "Overseas companies that operate or are listed in Hong Kong may consider moving their domicile to Hong Kong in order to reduce their regulatory compliance burden and costs in complying with dual regulation in their place of incorporation and in Hong Kong. Those with a business focus in APAC may wish to align their domicile with the location of their key business activities. The new regime is also expected to be an attractive option when the traditional incentives for maintaining offshore registrations are seen to be declining in light of the initiatives around global minimum tax and economic substance."
